New Delhi: The Singhu border incident was a “religious matter”, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait said on Sunday and added the Central government should not link it with the farmers’ protest.

He alleged that the government was behind the act of spoiling the atmosphere near the border.

Alleging that the Singhu border incident was a government conspiracy, Tikait said the ruling dispensation can deteriorate the situation at any time at the border.

“Nihangs said it's a religious matter and the government should not link it to farmers' protest. We're talking to them and telling them that they are not needed here as of now. The government can deteriorate the situation,” he told ANI in an exclusive conversation.

Questioning the Central government’s intelligence, the Bharatiya Kisan Union leader alleged that the ruling dispensation already knew about the incident since it was behind the execution.

“Delhi Police guards the barricades where the incident happened. The intelligence lives there at the border, did they not know about the incident? This shows that the incident was known to all and it was executed by the government,” Tikait said.

Earlier on Saturday, the Haryana Police detained two Nihangs by in connection with the incident at the Singhu border where a mutilated body was found hanging at the farmers’ protest site.
