Sikar Shootout: Agitation Turns Violent As Protesters Break Police Barricade, Demand Security For Slain Gangster's Kin

Gangster Raju Thet was shot dead outside his house in a shootout on Saturday. A man named Tarachand Jaat also succumbed to bullet injuries in the shootout incident.

New Delhi: Agitation against the shootout in Rajasthan’s Sikar turned violent as the protesters broke police barricades on Sunday evening, news agency ANI reported.

According to the report, the protesters demanded security for the family of slain gangster Raju Thet and government job and financial aid for the kin of deceased civilian Tarachand Jaat.

MP Hanuman Beniwal was also seen during the protest.

Beniwal also threatened to disrupt Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra if justice isn't meted out to the family of the victim. "Police want dharna to end as accused connected to Congress leaders. CBI should probe incident. We want justice for victim's family. We'll awaken Rajasthan & if need be we'll hinder Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' here," ANI quoted Beniwal as saying.

Notably, Gangster Raju Thet was shot dead outside his house in a shootout on Saturday. A man named Tarachand Jaat also succumbed to bullet injuries in the shootout incident.

Tarachand is a resident of Chhoti Khatu of Nagaur and was visiting his daughter living in the hostel when the incident took place.

State President of the BJP Kisan Morcha Hariram Rinwa also joined the protest staged by a family member of Tarachand Jaat. He targeted the Ashok Gehlot government saying it should control these types of situations.

Meanwhile, CM Ashok Gehlot on Sunday said that all the five accused in the Sikar shootout have been arrested and that a speedy trial in the case will be ensured.

CM Gehlot took to Twitter and said, “All the five accused of yesterday's murder case in Sikar along with their weapons and vehicles have been arrested. Speedy trial of all these accused and strict punishment at the earliest by the court will be ensured.”

The accused were arrested from Guda village of Jhunjhunu district.

“The accused had come from outside while some were from Rajasthan as well. It is very unfortunate that some gangs are still operating in the state. We are fighting against gangsters from Haryana and other states,” Gehlot said.
