New Delhi: Hours after Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Mansa district of Punjab on Sunday, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar "claimed responsibility" for the murder in a purported Facebook post. Soon after the purported post surfaced, the Punjab Police also confirmed Brar's role in the murder.
A close associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Brar said in the purported post that his module in Punjab carried out the attack on Moosewala. According to reports, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known by his stage name Sidhu Moosewala, was driving with two of his friends when the incident took place around 5.30 pm. Three of them were taken to hospital where Moosewala was declared dead on arrival.
Mansa SSP Gaurav Tura said some unidentified assailants, riding in three cars – a Maruti Alto, a Mahindra Bolero and a Mahindra Scorpio – surrounded Moosewala’s car before launching an attack on the three occupants.
According to the police, eight assailants attacked Moosewala and as many as 30 rounds were fired. Bullets from three AK- 94 rifles have also been found at the crime spot, they added.
In the Punjabi post in English script, Goldy Brar purportedly wrote: “In the incident with Sidhu Moosewala, I Goldy Brar, Sachin Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi Group take the responsibility for it. His name was taken in our brothers Vicky Middukhehra and Gurlal Brar's deaths, but police did not take any action. He was also involved in our brother Ankit Bhadu's encounter. He was going against us. Delhi Police directly named him in front of the media but he remained protected because of his power. No action was initiated against him…”
ABP Live has not been able to independently confirm the authenticity of the post.
As per reports, the police have detained some people in Bathinda due to their alleged connection with Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The police reportedly suspect their involvement in Moosewala's murder.
The police suspect inter-gang rivalry as the reason behind Moosewala’s murder, according to reports.
