Five days after singer Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead, the Punjab government on Friday told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the security cover of 424 VVIPs would be restored from June 7. Moose Wala, who had unsuccessfully contested the assembly polls on a Congress ticket, was shot dead at Jawaharke village in Mansa district a day after his security cover was curtailed.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court was hearing a petition by former minister OP Soni, who was among the 424 whose security cover was curtailed. The government also said that it was probing how the list came in the public domain.
Appearing for OP Soni, advocate Madhu Dayal told ANI, "The Punjab government said security was curtailed temporarily for the Amritsar ghalughara event and will be reinstated by June 7. The government said they will mark responsibility of the person who made the list of people whose security was curtailed public."
Hitting out at the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa tweeted, "Kejriwal-Mann duo bite the dust; again. They refuted back in High Court on their claim of reducing VIP culture in Punjab by saying that it was a temporary withdrawal. AAP's cheap stunt cost Punjabis a precious life. Punjab's youth would never forgive them for their hypocrisy."
Four Punjab Police commandos were earlier deployed with Moose Wala. But he was left with two commandos after the state police curtailed his security cover. However, Moose Wala neither took the remaining two commandos with him nor his bullet-proof vehicle on the fateful day, PTI reported.
Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for Sidhu Moose Wala's murder in a Facebook post hours after the incident. Goldy Brar is a close aide of gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, who is lodged in Tihar Jail.
