NEW DELHI: On Saturday, Vivek Tiwari, a 38-year-old employee of Apple died after he was shot at by a police constable in Lucknow. The police constable Prashant Chaudhary, who shot him, said he did not intend to kill Tiwari but fired at him accidentally during self-defence.

While speaking to news agency ANI, Chaudhary said, “I didn’t shoot at him. The bullet was shot by mistake. He hit me with his car and drove it over me three times with the intention to kill me.”

He also alleges “It's being said that CM has told that our case will not be registered. Is there no value of our lives?”

He now demands that his FIR must be registered and will not leave the police premise until the case is registered. His wife who is also in the police force said, “It has been 12 hours after the incident, no FIR is being registered."

Earlier the constable has said that he fired at Tiwari in self-defence as the latter was about to run over him from his vehicle for the third time when asked to stop. There’s discrepancy in Chaudhary’s statement as Tiwari was reportedly shot from a close range.

The incident took place near Gomti Nagar extension at around 1.30 a.m. when Tiwari was heading home after the launch of iPhone X plus along with his colleague.

The wife of Vivek Tiwari wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath asking him to get her justice. In her letter, Kalpana Tiwari demanded a CBI investigation in the case, a government job in the police department and one crore as compensation. The family of the deceased is now refusing to perform his last rites and threatening to go on a hunger strike till CM Yogi visits their house.

In the case, a special investigation team has been formed to investigate the shooting. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered. The policemen involved have been arrested & expelled.
