Shiv Sena Emblem Freezed: Shinde Faction Alleges 'Fake Affidavits' By Thackrey Camp, Mumbai Police Register FIR

"It is my allegation that these false and fake affidavits of Shiv Sainiks had been prepared for filing before the Election Commission," Former Thane mayor Naresh Mhaske.

The Mumbai Police have lodged a FIR against unnamed individuals on allegations of cheating and forgery after obtaining over 4,500 affidavits written in favour of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena party, according to an official, news agency PTI reported.

Former Thane mayor Naresh Mhaske, the spokesperson for the other Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, claimed in a video message that the Mumbai Police had discovered 4,682 "fake" affidavits and had registered a criminal case against unidentified individuals based on a complaint.

He congratulated the police and chastised the Thackeray group for alleged negligence in submitting affidavits to the Election Commission following a dispute with the Shinde faction over the party's election symbol.

"It is my allegation that these false and fake affidavits of Shiv Sainiks had been prepared for filing before the Election Commission," he was quoted by PTI in its report.

Mhaske said that everything was happening under the supervision of "Matoshree."

Former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray's residential mansion in suburban Bandra is known as 'Matoshree.'

According to a police official, the case was registered on Saturday at Nirmal Nagar police station here under Indian Penal Code Sections 420 (cheating) and 465 (forgery) after they recovered the affidavits from a notary to which important details such as Shiv Sena supporters' Aadhaar cards were attached.

According to the FIR, the complainant went to a Bandra court and spotted two people affixing the notary seal and stamp to a stack of papers.

According to the report, the police confiscated all of the affidavits and registered the offence against anonymous individuals.

According to a Nirmal Nagar police station employee, everyone preparing an affidavit must be physically present in front of the notary. He stated that in this situation, the persons in whose names the affidavits were being drafted were not present.

The police will contact those individuals to see whether they received the affidavits made in support of the Thackeray group, as well as whether they were aware of the affidavits prepared in their names, he added.

The authorities will also look into whether these supporters designated someone to draught and notarize these declarations on their behalf, he added, adding that an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Mhaske has urged that an investigation be launched into the affidavits given to the Election Commission so far by the Thackeray-led side.
