New Delhi: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday.  Hasina invited Sonia Gandhi, and members of the Gandhi family including Rahul and Priyanka to take part in the 50th Independence Day celebrations of Bangladesh.

On meeting Priyanka, Hasina extended a warm hug to the Congress UP East In-charge.

"An overdue hug from Sheikh Hasina Ji whom I have been waiting to meet again for a long time. Her strength in overcoming deep personal loss and hardship and fighting for what she believed in with bravery and perseverance is, and always will be a great inspiration for me," Priyanka said while sharing  a picture on Twitter.

The Congress delegation led by Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma met Hasina in the national capital.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma were also a part of the delegation.

"Sheikh Hasina has invited Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for the 50th Independence Day celebrations of Bangladesh, which was also accepted by Gandhi," Sharma was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

During the meeting, Sonia and Manmohan praised the work done by the Bangladeshi Prime Minister in the field of the economy, which has led to it being added in the list of developing countries, according to Sharma.

However, there were no discussions over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue.

"There was no discussion about NRC. It is an internal matter and neither we talked nor did they talk about it," said Sharma.

Prime Minister Hasina is on a four-day visit to India. She is the longest-serving Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina also conducted a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

Modi and Hasina on Saturday signed seven agreements and inaugurated three development partnership projects - import of bulk LPG from Bangladesh to Tripura through trucks, Vivekananda Bhaban (students' hostel) at Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka, and the Bangladesh-India Professional Skill Development Institute (BIPSDI) at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB), Khulna.

Hasina, who is on a four-day visit to India, will leave Delhi for Bangladesh on Sunday evening.
