NEW DELHI: Former President Pranab Mukherjee's daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee on Wednesday cautioned his father about the consequences of him attending the RSS event scheduled on Wednesday at its Nagpur headquarters.

Sharmistha, who is president of Delhi Mahila Congress, told Pranab that by going to Nagpur he is giving the BJP and the RSS "full handle" to "plant false stories" and spread false rumours.

"By going to Nagpur, you are giving BJP/RSS full handle to plant false stories, spread falls rumours as today and making it somewhat believable. And this is just the beginning!," she tweeted.

"Hope @CitiznMukherjee now realises from todays’ incident, how BJP dirty tricks dept operates. Even RSS wouldn’t believe that u r going 2 endorse its views in ur speech. But the speech will be forgotten, visuals will remain & those will be circulated with fake statements," she tweeted.

Pranab, who arrived in Nagpur on Wednesday, would be visiting the RSS headquarters on Thursday and would address a function there.  The visit has already given rise to a lot of speculation and a host of Congress leaders have urged the former president to review his decision for the sake of secularism.

Earlier in the day sources had said that Pranab wants Sharmistha to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on BJP's ticket from West Bengal's Malda. Reacting to which, Sharmistha said she would rather leave politics than quit the Congress.
