Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to the family of popular folk singer Sharda Sinha who is critically health and undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
Sinha's son Anshuman Sinha has been sharing updates about his mother's health through social media and media outlets. Speaking to news agency ANI, Anshuman confirmed that PM Modi reached out to them and personally assured all necessary support for his mother's treatment.
The 72-year-old celebrated artist, known for her soul-stirring folk rendition during the Chhath festival, has been battling multiple myeloma -- a type of blood cancer, since 2018. On Monday, Sinha had to be shifted to a ventilator after her health worsened.

The singer is "haemodynamically stable but under constant monitoring," stated an official statement from AIIMS.
Sharda Sinha is widely known for her contributions to the traditional folk music of Bihar and her iconic Chhath geet and is considered a cultural ambassador of the region.
Her voice has become synonymous with the festival of Chhath, which notably began on Tuesday and is celebrated with fervour in Bihar and parts of North India.
Sinha's career began in the 1970s and rose to prominence with her work in Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music.

She also made a mark in the Hindi film industry through her famous songs like 'Babool' from 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!' bringing her critical acclaim.
She was honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2018, India's third-highest civilian award, for her contribution to the field of arts. She is also a recipient of a National Film Award, cementing her legacy as one of the top singers in regional cinema.
