New Delhi: On the occasion of Shaheed Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Biplobi Bharat Gallery at Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata via video conferencing at 6 pm. He will also address the gathering post the inauguration.

A day ahead of the event, PM Modi tweeted, “23rd March is a special day for us all as we observe Shaheed Diwas. At 6 PM tomorrow will inaugurate the Biplobi Bharat Gallery at Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata via VC. It will showcase the contributions of those who devoted their lives for our freedom.”

According to a press release by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the gallery will showcase the contributions of the revolutionaries in the freedom struggle and their armed resistance against the British empire.

As per the press release by the PMO, “This aspect has often not been given its due place in the mainstream narrative of the freedom movement.”

This gallery serves the purpose of providing a holistic view of the events of the decades-long freedom struggle that led up to the independence in 1947, highlighting the role played by the revolutionaries.

The press release added, “Biplobi Bharat Gallery depicts the political and intellectual backdrop that triggered the Revolutionary movement.”

It further said that the gallery showcases the birth of the revolutionary movement starting from the formation of significant associations by revolutionary leaders, the spread of the movement, the formation of the Indian National Army, the contribution of naval mutiny, and many other significant events.

On March 23, 1931, Bhagat Singh, Raajguru, and Sukhdev were hanged to death by the British court of law in the Lahore conspiracy case.
