Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Kav Dhinakaran on Thursday said he has filed a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Malviya who “wrongly made a Twitter remark” against Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. The Tamil Nadu minister stirred a controversy recently after he equated ‘Sanatan Dharma’ with corona, dengue, and malaria and called for its end. Reacting to his statement, Malviya posted on X saying, “he is calling for genocide of 80% population of Bharat” in a reference to the Hindu population residing in the country.

"I have filed a complaint against (BJP leader) Amit Malviya who has wrongly made a Twitter remark against Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. He is a wrong interpreter, and that's why I have filed a complaint against him on behalf of DMK," Dhinakaran told PTI.

On September 2, speaking at a seminar the minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in the Tamil Nadu government said, “There are some things which we have to eradicate and can’t merely oppose. Mosquitoes, dengue, fever, malaria and corona, all these are things which we cannot oppose, we have to eradicate them. Sanatanam (Sanatan Dharma) is like this.”

Reacting to the statement, Malviya posted, “Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamilnadu CM MK Stalin, and a minister in the DMK Govt, has linked Sanatana Dharma to malaria and dengue… He is of the opinion that it must be eradicated and not merely opposed. In short, he is calling for genocide of 80% population of Bharat, who follow Sanatan Dharma.”

He also took a pot shot at the I.N.D.I.A. bloc over his statement.

The DMK then filed a complaint with Trichy police against Malviya accusing him of distorting Stalin’s statement. Malviya was booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 153A, 504, 505 1(B).

An FIR was also registered against Stalin and Congress leader Priyank Kharge in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur over the former’s statement and Kharge for backing it.

On Thursday, Stalin said that he will face all the cases against him legally. He also requested DMK cadres to not waste time by being involved in works including filing cases against the seers or burning his effigies
