New Delhi: In the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Samajwadi Party's chief Akhilesh Yadav will take charge against the Bharatiya Janata Party. He has been elected leader in the legislative party after a meeting held on Saturday.
The former CM of Uttar Pradesh resigned from the Lok Sabha, earlier this week.
Akhilesh Yadav said the "sacrifice" was necessary to carry out the struggle against inflation, unemployment and social injustice.
A senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, Lalaji Verma, told India Today news that he welcomed Yadav's resignation from the Lok Sabha and retain his seat in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. He was further reported as saying that he wants Yadav to be the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
Prior to this, Ram Govind Chaudhary of the Samajwadi Party served as the Leader of the Opposition from 2017 to 2022.
Samajwadi Party has suffered defeat in the results of the Assembly elections declared on March 10. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance has won 273 seats and captured power once again while the SP alliance was reduced to 125 seats. Akhilesh Yadav has decided to remain active in UP politics keeping 2027 in mind
However, in the assembly elections held recently, Akhilesh Yadav was elected MLA from the Karhal assembly after defeating BJP's SP Singh Baghel.
Experts believe that because Akhilesh Yadav remained less active in UP politics for a long time, he has suffered losses. In such a situation now Akhilesh Yadav has changed his strategy.
