New Delhi: In a shocking incident, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary and his driver were allegedly beaten up by four unidentified assailants in South Delhi's Hauz Khan area on late Wednesday in what police assumed to be a case of road rage. According to Police, the incident took place at around 10:30 pm when Chaudhary was on his way home in his official car.  Informing media about the incident, the police said that Chaudhary's car was hit by another vehicle after which the SAIL Chairman and his driver got out of the car. The occupants of the other car then attacked them.


The police also said that Chaudhary was attacked by iron rods. After hearing the commotion, police who were on patrol arrived at the spot and nabbed two of the attackers. Later, Chaudhary and his driver were taken to All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Trauma Centre and were discharged after treatment.

Police have arrest two accused from the spot and later informed that one of them had been involved in cases of theft earlier and the other is a labourer. An FIR has been registered at Hauz Khas Police Station regarding the incident. Further investigation is underway in the matter.

The police also informed that one of the assailants is a resident of Dwarka and the other one is from Uttam Nagar area. The second car involved in the attack has also been seized. "SAIL is deeply shocked and anguished at the attack. As he and his driver came out of their car, one person from the other car caught the driver by his neck while the other three severely attacked Shri Chaudhary with iron rods on his head, neck, knees and legs. The assailants were also armed with knives. The driver was left unharmed," SAIL said in an official statement.

“The driver was left unharmed. Fortunately, the Police Motorcycle Patrol arrived at the site and managed to nab two persons. Chaudhary was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre for immediate medical treatment. He has since been discharged from the hospital. A complaint to this effect has been registered at Hauz Khas Police Station, New Delhi. The police is investigating the attack from all possible angles,” it added.
