As India marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the 'Father of the Nation'; citizens across the country paid tributes to the towering statesman who spearheaded India's freedom struggle and national movement to help the country gain independence from colonial rule.

While Prime Minister Modi, President Ramn Nath Kovind and scores of senior politicians and leaders across party lines paid their tributes, Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar joined them by paying his respects to the 'Mahatma'.

Sachin Tendulkar had a unique way of his own in remembering Gandhi as he invoked a quote said by the eminent leader about the world having enough for everyone's needs but not their greed while expressing his views on Mother Earth. He appealed to all citizens that the best way to remember the 'Naked Saint' was to contribute in making India Clean and Healthy nation.

Sachin Tendulkar extended his support to the government which has a clear cut mission  to reduce the use of single-use plastic. Citing the example of the Army, Navy, and Air-force coming together to protect the country, Sachin Tendulkar said that it was essential to clean all three areas i.e water, air and land clean.

As a part of the landmark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the government has organised many events with the aim of promoting and spreading awarness on cleanliness, fitness and sustainable use of resources are being organized across the country. The message being promoted through the events are in line with the principles of cleanliness, self reliance practices and preached by Gandhi.
