Sabarimala temple verdict: The Supreme Court on Friday pronounced its verdict on the entry of women of menstrual age in Kerala's Sabarimala temple and paved the way for the entry of women of all ages into the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala. The apex court said law and society are tasked with the task to act as levellers. Religion is a way of life basically to link life with divinity, it added. CJI Dipak Mishra said, "This is a country where women are worshipped as goddesses. Women can't be treated as weaker or lesser."

The five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra gave a 4:1 verdict. In four set of judgements, CJI wrote for himself and Justice A M Khanwilkar, while Justice Indu Malhotra gave a separate dissenting verdict. Some people have welcomed the verdict and are lauding the apex court for its decision, while there is a section of society which has been left disappointed. This includes Sabarimala head priest Kandararu Rajeevaru who said that he is disappointed with the judgement, but will accept Supreme Court's verdict on women entry.
