The district and sessions court in Haryana's Rohtak city acquitted Abdul Karim nicknamed Tunda on Friday in a case relating to the 1997 twin bomb explosions. Tunda was originally thought by authorities to be a close associate of Dawood Ibrahim.
"There were two cases against him. Court acquitted him in both. Police couldn't prove any of the allegations they had levelled against him. These blasts took place in 1997," Vineet Verma, Abdul Karim Tunda's lawyer was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle.
The first explosion occurred at the city's vegetable market, while the second occurred around 30 minutes later on Qila Road. Although no one was killed in these explosions, numerous others were hurt. Tunda, a resident of Pilkhua village in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was charged in the crime, but he fled the country. As he entered Indian territory from Nepal in 2013, Delhi Police apprehended him.

After hearing arguments from both parties, the Rohtak court reserved its decision on the case on Monday.
Tunda, who is now imprisoned in Ajmer, Rajasthan, appeared in the Rohtak court through videoconferencing on Friday.
For the previous 26 years, he has been awaiting trial in the twin bombings case and pleading "not guilty". His attorney, Vineet Verma, stated that the case was accelerated due to the lengthy duration of the trial. Tunda, who has already been acquitted in two previous cases, is facing three more criminal charges in other states.
