During the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in Delhi on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs showcased the success of the G20 Summit held in India. The nation successfully hosted the 18th G20 Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 9-10, 2023.






 









During the parade on Friday, the MEA tableau depicted the successful completion of India's G20 Presidency and its achievements. It reflects India's leadership in addressing global issues in an ambitious, decisive and inclusive action-oriented manner.


President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national flag at Kartavya Path on Friday. French President Emmanuel Macron graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for this year's Republic Day Parade. At Kartavya Path, an impressive march past unfolded showcasing a joint Band and Marching contingent from the French Armed Forces. Captain Khourda headed a 30-member band contingent followed by Captain Noel leading a 90-member marching contingent.


In 2024, India commemorates its 75th Republic Day on January 26 (Friday), marking a significant milestone. Unlike the conventional calendar year, Republic Day is calculated based on the number of years since the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Adopted on January 26, 1950, the Constitution's 75th anniversary is observed this year.


The culmination of the Constituent Assembly's efforts occurred on January 26, 1950, with the adoption of the Constitution, despite India gaining independence in 1947. This date officially marked the commencement of the new constitutional framework.

The inaugural Republic Day parade in 1950 took place at the Irwin Amphitheater, later known as the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. Subsequently, the first parade at Rajpath, now Kartavyapath, transpired in 1955, with Pakistan's Governor General Malik Ghulam Muhammad serving as the chief guest.


Following liberation from British rule, the drafting committee, under the leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, meticulously formulated the new constitution. On January 26, 1950, the Indian Constitution came into effect, solidifying India's status as an independent republic.
