New Delhi: Patanjali Foundation president Swami Ramdev formally launched an initiative to attempt 75 crore surya namaskars in Hyderabad on Monday as part of the ongoing 'Amrit Utsav' celebrating India's 75th year of independence.
The event was attended by Minister of Ayush and Ports Sarbananda Sonowal, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Minister of Prohibition and Excise of Telangana V Srinivas Goud and president of Shri Ram Chandra Mission Daaji.
"The event reflects Swami Ramdev's and Daaji's idea of unity with the intention of preserving and propagating the ancient science of yoga. The 75 crore Surya Namaskar project is also a tribute to 75 years of India's independence," a statement by Patanjali said.
Geeta Parivar, Kreeda Bharti, Patanjali Yogpeeth, Heartfulness institute and National Yogasan Sports Federation have together decided to conduct 75 crore surya namaskar as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
"With 30 participating states, 21,814 participating institutions, 10,05,429 registered students, the number of surya namaskars are already slated to being at 97,25,560 and the numbers are growing," the statement further said.
Swami Ramdev had earlier said that yoga and spiritualism could play a major role in resolving the problems being faced by the world.
