'Ram And Baam Are Same Now': Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's Dig At BJP, Left

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said there was no difference in the divisive politics of the BJP and the Left and implied a tacit understanding between the two.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that the ideologies of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left had become the same — one of divisiveness. Banerjee implied a tacit understanding between the Left and the BJP, accusing the two parties, which are ideologically poles apart, of forging a 'Ram-Baam' (BJP-Left) alliance.

Speaking at the launch of TMC's new campaign — 'Didir Suraksha Kavach' — on Monday, Mamata  Banerjee said, "Now, 'Ram and Baam' [BJP-Left] have become one."

"You have to listen to people with humility. But BJP's ideology makes you feel lonely. It differentiates among people," the TMC supremo said. She further stated that she wants unity in the country. "I want to strengthen the federal structure. Rumours are being spread all over India against the TMC. But I answer to my people," she added.

Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and state president Subrata Bakshi were present at the launch of the 'Didir Suraksha Kavach' door-to-door mass outreach programme.

The Bengal CM said that around 3.5 lakh party workers would reach out to 10 crore people of the state under the event. "This is being done so that no one is left out. We have to continue working for the people. TMC is of the people, for the people. The ‘Duare Sarkar’ campaign of the state government will continue," she said.

She assured that a proper vigilance system at the party level will be put in place to “weed out rotten elements”. Mamata Banerjee said: "To ensure that work is actually being done, we have to keep an eye on the people. A proper vigilance system will be put in place to keep a check at the panchayat level. There will be a check and cross-check mechanism to look into all complaints. The panchayat does not have to answer, I have to answer to the people. If there is a problem, we have to alert people and give them time to rectify or take action."

The Bengal CM also underlined her commitment to the ideology of her party, saying: "We want a united India and unity in diversity. In the present times, the federal structure needs to be strengthened."

Abhishek Banerjee said that TMC will start a 60-day outreach campaign for the scheme on January 11. "Our party workers will reach out to the people across the state and ensure that everyone can benefit from the welfare schemes of the state government," he said.
