New Delhi: There has been a rise in the number of students dying by suicide in the educational city of Kota in Rajasthan, with four deaths reported in the past one month.


A student, Ranveer Singh, died by suicide on Monday at Landmark City in Kunadi Police Station area, leading to panic and commotion in Kota.


The incident came to the fore when Ranveer did not open the door of his room after his friends called him to go for coaching classes.


His friends later informed the police. When the door was broken, Ranveer’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room.


The police took the body in its possession after thoroughly investigating the matter.


The body was kept in the mortuary room of the MBS hospital and the police informed the relatives of the deceased.


Kunadi Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhuvnesh Kumar, who conducted the probe into the matter, said that the 18-year-old student, Ranveer Singh, was a resident of Bihar and had come to study in Kota a month ago.


Singh was preparing for the medical exams in Kota. No suicide note has, however, been found and the matter is being further investigated.


The post-mortem will be conducted after arrival of the relatives of the deceased.


With the coaching centers starting yet again this year after being closed due to Covid-19, the students from across the country are rushing to enroll themselves at the earliest.


This is the second incident of suicide of a coaching student in Kota’s Kunadi area in 10 days and the fourth incident in a month.


A student from Odisha, identified as Ashish Ranjan, died by suicide in Kota on April 23. A 17-year-old girl student took her life on April 18.


23-year-old Devender Kumar Singh, a resident of Hindaun city in Karauli district of Rajasthan, died by suicide on April 1.
