Rajasthan Local Body Polls: Rajasthan Congress has suffered massive setback in the Panchayat, Zila Parishad polls in Rajasthan, close on the heels of emerging the weakest party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls. The saffron party in Rajasthan swept 1,911 seats in the recently held panchayat samiti elections while the Congress was limited to 1,781 seats.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said in a media address, "Bharatiya Janata Party has won in 1,990 Panchayat Samitis,14 Zila Parishads and 93 Block Panchayats in Rajasthan."

The results for 4,239 seats were announced out of 4,371. The counting was still underway.

Reacting to the party’s performance, J P Nadda said “BJP's win in panchayat, zila parishad polls in Rajasthan shows trust of poor, farmers, labourers in PM Modi.”

The Independents gained 425 seats, the Bahujan Samaj Party got 3 seats while CPI-M captured 16 seats in the elections while RLP got 57 seats, according to the state election commission website.

The victory further strengthened BJP's goal of capturing the local power in states, coming soon after its splendid electoral performance in the Hyderabad local polls. Also the poll victories come at a time when Modi's polices were being protested against in Rajasthan by the Congress government who were supporting the bandh call on Tuesday.

The polls were held in four phases including November 23, 29, December 1, and 5.
