Three men are accused of beating a Dalit man and making him wear a garland fashioned out of shoes on Friday in the Sirohi region of Rajasthan, according to the police, news agency PTI reported.

According to Kotwali Station Officer Rajendra Singh Rajpurohit, the accused beat Bharat Kumar Julawa and also videotaped the incident. The footage was later posted online.

According to police, a FIR has been made under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Act against all three. They stated that a search is currently underway to find the suspect.

The Parliament of India passed the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in 1989 to prevent atrocities and hate crimes against the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The Act is commonly referred to as the SC/ST Act, the PoA, or simply the 'Atrocities Act.'

Recent Attacks On Dalits

Earlier this month, Rajasthan Police had said that a 46-year-old Dalit man was beaten to death while fetching water from a tubewell.

According to his brother Ashok, the accused allegedly shouted casteist remarks at Kishanlal Bheel (46), of Bhomiyaji ki Ghati in Soorsagar, and refused to allow his family members to transport him to a hospital.

According to police, three persons were apprehended and charged under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

In October, a 32-year-old Dalit man and his parents were shot dead in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district after he had been accused of staring at the wife of one of the assailants, police said.

The 32-year-old victim's two younger brothers were injured in the attack while the main accused was arrested, according to the officials.

The incident took place around 6.30 am at Devran village under Dehat police station limits, some 20 km from Damoh district headquarters, Superintendent of Police D R Teniwar said.

Six assailants, who belonged to the same village, allegedly shot dead the 60-year-old Dalit man, his 58-year-old wife and their 32-year-old son.
