Following the disqualification of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, images of outrage of the party workers have been reported from across the country. On Saturday, a similar incident was reported from Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, where the district Congress protested by raising slogans against the central government. Officials from the District Congress stated that democracy is being murdered in the country and that it will not be tolerated.
This morning, Congress office bearers demonstrated at the Tehsil level district headquarters in Bharatpur. Congress workers and office bearers gathered at the district's powerhouse and chanted anti-government and PM Narendra Modi slogans. The protesting Congress workers and office-bearers claimed that Rahul Gandhi raises the voice of the country, but that due to a vendetta, a case was filed against him, and his membership in the Lok Sabha was terminated.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi's removal from the Lok Sabha, according to Congress leader Dharmendra Sharma, is an outright injustice. "This is the assassination of democracy. If the freedom fighters who liberated the country were still alive today, they would be devastated by this incident," he said.
He stated that this kind of work is being done in the spirit of vengeance in order to silence Rahul Gandhi's voice. "Action has been taken against Rahul Gandhi in order to divert public attention away from the country's pressing issues," he added.
Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, nearly 24 hours after a court in Gujarat's Surat convicted him in a 2019 defamation case, an action the Congress condemned as "vindictive politics" by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and vowed to fight it legally and politically.
Gandhi (52), a four-time Lok Sabha member, will be barred from running for office for the next eight years unless a higher court overturns his conviction.
