New Delhi: In a tragic accident, as many as eleven pilgrims were killed and seven others were injured in a road accident in Nagaur.
The accident happened as a van collided with a truck in Rajasthan's Nagaur district on Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred near Shri Balaji temple on the Bikaner-Jodhpur Highway, Police said, adding eight women were among those 11 killed, according to a report by PTI.
The victims travelling in the ill-fated cruiser hailed from Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district and were returning home after offering prayers at Ramdevra and Karni Mata temples.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the unfortunate incident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
"The horrific road accident in Nagaur, Rajasthan is very painful. I express my condolences to the families of all those who have lost their lives in this accident and wish the injured a speedy recovery," PM Modi said.
PM Narendra Modi also approved an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the accident at Nagaur, Rajasthan. The PMO informed that the injured would be given Rs 50,000.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs each to kin of 11 persons from Ujjain who died in a road accident in Nagaur. The Madhya Pradesh chief minister also announced that the state government govt will bear the entire cost of treatment for the injured.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has expressed grief over the accident.
"The death of 11 pilgrims returning to MP in a horrific road accident in Shribalaji area of Nagaur is extremely sad. My condolences to the bereaved family, may God give them strength in this difficult time, and may the soul of the departed rest in peace. Praying for speedy recovery of the injured," Gehlot tweeted.
