New Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video on Twitter having 'vada pav' and tea at a roadside stall during his visit to Mumbai on Friday.
Ashwini Vaishnaw also travelled by a local train between Thane and Diva stations for inspection of two additional railway lines that would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PTI reported.
PM Modi will inaugurate two railway lines of 9.44 km connecting Thane and Diva through video conferencing. He will also flag off two suburban trains on the route.
The Railway Minister boarded the local train at Thane station around 1 pm and travelled till Diva station. He travelled in a second class compartment and interacted with passengers on-board the train and also at Diva station.
Union Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Danve, Railway Board chairman VK Tripathi and other officials also accompanied Vaishnaw in the local train.
After a small function at Diva station, they returned to Thane by a special inspection coach, PTI quoted railway officials as saying.
Vaishnaw then had 'vada pav', a popular snack in Maharashtra, and tea at a roadside stall outside the Thane railway station.
A large crowd had gathered at Diva station's platform number one to witness the function in which the ministers took part, leading to chaos. Passengers later complained that they could not catch trains due to overcrowding.
Mumbai's suburban network, considered the lifeline of the city, is used by 60 lakh commuters daily.
The commissioning of the two new lines will see 36 additional suburban services being introduced on the main line of Central Railway. The number of AC local trains will also increase from 10 to 44.
