New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Raipur in Chhattisgarh today. He will visit the state to lay the foundation stone of 'Amar Jawan Jyoti'. Rahul will also inaugurate Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bhumiheen Krishi Mazdur Yojana during his visit.


The state government will construct the Amar Jawan Jyoti on the premises of the 4th Battalion, Chhattisgarh Armed Forces Mana, Raipur. The flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti will continue to be lit in honour of the martyrs who died for the country in various wars and conflicts.


"We will honour the martyrdom of the sons of Chhattisgarh who sacrificed their lives for the country by joining uniformed services, as well as the Bravehearts of the country who sacrificed their lives in Chhattisgarh through 'Chhattisgarh Amar Jawan Jyoti'," Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was quoted by news agency ANI.


Meanwhile, former Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi and said that the Congree leader is welcome but he should also speak about the failures of his government in the state.







A memorial tower, along with a VVIP platform and a wall with names of martyrs will come up at the Amar Jawan Jyoti in Raipur.


The wall with the names of the martyrs inscribed on it will be constructed in the form of a crescent and measure 100 feet in length and 3 feet in breadth. The memorial tower will be made of sandstone.


The memorial will have a memento on its top , while a rifle and helmet will places in front of it on its base. The flame of Amar Jawan Jyoti will be lit in front of this symbol which will be ignited 24 hours.


A fort-like two-storey building is also likely to be constructed in front of the Amar Jawan Jyoti.


The move is significant in the wake of merging the eternal flame at Amar Jawan Jyoti with the National War Memorial near India gate in New Delhi. The Congress party was strictly opposed to the move by the BJP government.
