New Delhi: Amid growing speculations over whether Rahul Gandhi would stay on as the Congress President, party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala in an off the camera statement said that Rahul shall on as the party president.

As per sources tracking the latest development on the matter, Rahul Gandhi will be meeting senior Congress leaders at 4:30 at his residence in New Delhi.

On Monday, Congress treasurer Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal met Rahul Gandhi. But Patel insisted that he had gone to meet Rahul Gandhi for routine administrative work. “I had sought time before the CWC to meet the Congress President to discuss routine administrative work. The meeting today was in that context. All other speculation is incorrect and baseless,” Patel tweeted.

After Congress party's dismal performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi had offered to tender his resignation but the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously rejected his decision.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi hit out at some senior leaders for putting the interests of their sons ahead of the party’s interests, at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet on Saturday.

At the meeting which was held to contemplate on the reasons behind Congress’ debacle, Gandhi offered his resignation as the party chief, which was rejected by the CWC.

As per sources, the meet saw an angry Rahul, lashing out at senior leaders for pushing for tickets to their sons. He blamed Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, and Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath for insisting tickets for their sons, even when he was opposed to the idea. He also mentioned veteran leader P Chidamabaram in this contest.
