Rahul Gandhi Talks About Scrapping Reservation — 'When India Is...'

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke about scrapping of reservation system in the country while interacting with students at Georgetown University in Washington DC.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday spoke about the reservation system in India and the appropriate time when it should be scrapped. 
 
Interacting with students at Georgetown University in Washington DC, Gandhi said that the Congress party will think of scrapping the reservation when India is a fair place, which is not the case right now. 

“We will think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place. And India is not a fair place,” Gandhi told students at the university here in response to a question on reservation and how long it would continue.

“When you look at the financial numbers, then tribals get 10 paise out of 100 rupees; Dalits get 5 rupees out of 100 rupees, and OBCs get a similar number. The fact of the matter is that they're not getting participation," Gandhi said.

Speaking during the session, the Congress MP said that the OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis "are not even part of the game when we talk about institutions, businesses, and the media." 

Reiterating his stance on caste cenus, Gandhi said while it is a simple exercise, it's more than just a census. 

"It’s one of three ideas. It’s a simple way of saying: we got independence in 1947, it’s been a while now, let’s see how the lower castes, backward castes, and Dalits have integrated into the system. What is their actual participation," he said.
