In the cease and desist notice, the leader has been asked to ‘restrain from speaking on Rafale deal’, failing which he has been threatened of ‘legal consequences’.
The notice claims that several leaders of Congress have been making “derogatory, false, misleading, frivolous, baseless, and distorted statements on the matter”. It says that the leaders are doing to “suit their political interests”.
It further says that the statements are “factually incorrect, speculative and exhibit their lack of understanding of the subject matter”. It further claimed that it has also tarnished the image of Reliance, resulting in defamation.
It has also sought retraction of the statements made against them and not make such “derogatory” statements on such sensitive matter related to “national security”.
Responding to the notice, he said, "I am a Congress Soldier, a proud Punjabi who doesn’t get scared with such notices."
In a video message, Shergill added, "By sending the notice, BJP and its supporters have proved there was something fishy about the whole deal. Secondly, BJP should clarify why by snubbing HAL, the contract was given to its friends. The notice cannot suppress the voice of the Congress. We will continue to hold press conferences in every corner of the country questioning the deal. You will have to answer. The Congress has never been afraid of such notices."
