Raids are being conducted at more than 1,000 locations associated with gangster Goldy Brar across Punjab. "Senior officers in the state are monitoring the entire operation to nab Brar's aides," said Punjab ADGP, Law and Order, Arpit Shukla. The raids are being conducted as part of legal proceedings against listed gangsters, he said.

The Punjab Police launched the operation on Thursday and conducted the raids in Moga, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, and Amritsar (rural) districts to nab the aides of the Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar. The operation is likely to continue throughout the day and a report will be submitted to Shukla in the evening.

Goldy Brar, the prime accused in the assassination of Congress leader and singer Sidhu Moosewala last year, is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. He flew out of India on a student visa in 2017. "Sidhu Moosewala was an egoistic person. He misused his political and money power. It was necessary to teach him a lesson," Brar said in an interview earlier this year. Goldy Brar had previously shared a Facebook post that said that Sidhu Moose Wala was killed to avenge the murder of a Youth Akali Dal leader, Vicky Middukhera.

Canada put Goldy Brar, aka Satinderjeet Singh, on its '25 Most Wanted' criminals' list. Brar is also wanted by the Interpol, which has issued a Red Notice against him. He is accused in a number of cases, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, criminal conspiracy, and supply of illegal firearms.

In the interview, Goldy Brar said that he intends to assassinate Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as well for "hurting the sentiments of the Bishnoi community by killing a blackbuck in 1998". The blackbuck, or Indian antelope, is considered sacred by the Bishnoi community. Brar also allegedly threatened to kill singer Honey Singh.
