The Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti has called for protests on July 31 in the state. According to ABP News, the farmers' union will block rail routes in Amritsar and various other places. A protest rally is also scheduled in Mohali, for August 5 which will be headed by Balbir Singh Rajewal, founder of Bharatiya Kisan Union, ABP reported.
The protests to be held on July 31 and August 5 is aimed at drawing the attention of the central government towards the demands made by the farmers of the state during the farmers' movement in November 2020. They farmers also seek Punjab's representation in the MSP committee, reported ABP.
Meanwhile, Samyukt Kisan Morcha has announced to hold a protest on August 3 against the AAP government in Punjab over non-payment of sugarcane dues and compensation for cotton crop damaged by whitefly, reported PTI.
According to the news agency, SKM will block national highways at three places in Majha, Malwa and Doaba regions in the state on that day.
Bharti Kisan Union (Sidhupur) president Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is a member of the SKM, said that farmers had held a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on April 17 and May 18 and discussed issues like releasing dues of the sugarcane farmers but the payment has yet not been made, PTI reported.
Dallewal while speaking to PTI said that government jobs for the kin of farmers who lost their lives during the protests against the now-repealed farm laws, bonus on wheat crop, compensation for damage to basmati crop are also some of the demands for which the protests will take place.
