Farmer leaders will meet with the Punjab governor on Tuesday to discuss their different demands, as the three-day Samyukta Kisan Morcha protest entered its second day on Monday, news agency PTI reported. On Sunday, tens of thousands of farmers gathered at the Mohali-Chandigarh border to force the Centre to adopt their multiple requests, including a legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP). Farmers are requesting the removal of proceedings filed against them during the 2020-21 stir against now-repealed agricultural rules, as well as compensation and jobs for any family members of farmers who died during the stir, debt forgiveness, and pension.






The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) is a federation of farmer unions.


Harmeet Singh Kadian, a farmer leader, told the reporters here that their leaders will meet with the governor on Tuesday.


“We will give our memorandum to the governor on Tuesday at 11 am,” Kadian was quoted by PTI in its report.


Farmer leaders also stated that the SKM's next line of action will be chosen on Tuesday.


Various farmer organisations, including the SKM's Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), BKU (Lakhowal), and BKU (Dakunda), are taking part in the protest.


Because of the demonstration, heavy security was put in place, and traffic was diverted to other routes on several roadways.


Farmers from Haryana also congregated at Panchkula's Sector 5, where cops were stationed in huge numbers.


Farmers from across Punjab began congregating on Sunday along the Mohali-Chandigarh boundary near Phase-11 in Mohali.


They arrived in tractor trolleys, automobiles, and other vehicles carrying rations, beds, utensils, cooking gas, and cylinders for the three-day demonstration.


Farmers have set up tents and a platform in the centre of the road, and agricultural leaders are speaking to the demonstrators.


The Punjab and Chandigarh police departments have increased security at the Mohali-Chandigarh border, building barriers and stationing water cannons.


Police in Chandigarh and Mohali have already issued traffic advisories.
