Punjab Election Results 2022 Key Candidates: As the counting of votes for the 117 member Punjab assembly begins at 8 am today, the results of the election will be awaited with bated breath.
The counting is going to decide the fate of several candidates including some popular names. Whether the Congress manages to grab power again, or will the AAP as predicted by ABP News-CVoter form government in Punjab will be clear as counting begins.
But before that let's take a look at some prominent faces whose fate will be decided today.
Charanjit Singh Channi | Congress
The Congress chief ministerial candidate Charanjit Singh Channi has contested from Chamkaur and Bhadaur assembly seats. Both the seats are reserved with over 30 per cent of the Scheduled Caste Population. It is for the first time that Channi fought the election from the Bhadaur seat after being elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2007
Navjot Singh Sidhu | Congress
Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu contested from the Amritsar East assembly seat. In the 2017 Punjab elections, Sidhu had won the assembly seat beating BJP leader Rajesh Kumar Honey by a margin of more than 42,800 votes.
Sukhbir Singh Badal | SAD
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal contested from the party bastion Jalalabad in Fazilka district this time. He was pitted against congress' Mohan Singh Phalianwala, AAP’s Jagdeep Kamboj and BJP’s Puran Chand. In total, 15 candidates contested from the Jalalabad assembly constituency.
Capt Amarinder Singh | PLC
Former Punjab chief minister and Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) supremo Capt Amarinder Singh fought from the Patiala constituency.
Singh had last year resigned from Congress to form his own political party, Punjab Lok Congress. He had differences with Navjot Singh Sidhu and senior Congress party leaders over various political issues including election strategy in the state.
Bikram Singh Majithia | SAD
Bikram Singh Majithia of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the first time contested from the Amritsar East Constituency. Majithia left his home constituency Majitha to fight against archrival Navjot Singh Sidhu of the Congress party.
