The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to the juvenile accused in the Pune porsche car accident case. The court ordered that the minor be released into the care and custody of his paternal aunt and his sessions with the psychologist should continue.
The minor's aunt had moved the High Court, alleging unlawful detention of the minor in an observation home. According to ANI, the high court today granted bail to the minor.
A bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande in the high court observed that sending a minor to an observation home after granting bail nullifies the purpose of bail.
“Two people have lost their lives. There was trauma but the child was also in trauma,” the court said, according to an Economic Times report.
The minor was sent to an observation home, following his bail in a high-profile Porsche crash case.
The Pune Porsche crash where the minor was allegedly driving the case had claimed the lives of 2 techies on May 19.
This case shocked the country after the Juvenile Justice Board member, L. N. Danwade, granted bail to the minor with certain conditions, including writing a 300-word essay on road safety.
The teen was initially granted bail within 15 hours of his arrest, with conditions including writing a 300-word essay on road safety. This bail order caused public outrage, leading the police to seek its amendment.
Consequently, the bail order was modified, and the teen, along with his parents and grandfather who faced charges of bribery and falsifying blood tests, was sent to a remand.
Last week, the teen's aunt filed a habeas corpus plea, arguing that the remand order violated applicable laws.
The high court in the previous hearing while reviewin the minor's remand order had questioned the legality of his remand after a bail was granted.
