Martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack were paid tributes to mark its fourth anniversary on Tuesday. The CRPF and other security forces paid their tributes to 40 jawans who were killed in the ghastly terror attack on their convoy in 2019.
Led by Special Director General of the CRPF Daljit Singh Chaudhry, the officers of the force, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army laid floral wreaths on the memorial for the martyrs in Pulwama.
While talking to the reporters, Chaudhry said, “Our 40 bravehearts sacrificed their lives. We are proud of them. Their sacrifice inspires us to make the country terror free.”
Families of the martyrs also remembered their sons who lost lives in the attack.
In Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, a family of CRPF constable Ratan Thakur remembered their son on this day. Ratan Thakur lost his life during the Pulwama attack in 2019.
His father Raniranjan Thakur said, "He's survived by his 2 young sons & wife. I've vowed to send his older son Krishna to the armed forces,” reported ANI.
Another family of CRPF constable Naseer Ahmad also remembered him, who lost life in the attack. Ahmad’s wife Shazia Kausar said, “We remember him every day. We're pained by his demise but also proud that he sacrificed himself for the nation.”
She further added, “This day makes me sad but I am proud to be his wife. CRPF has been with us & our family,” according to ANI.
India considers February 14 to be a "black day" due to the Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF bravehearts were killed in one of the deadliest attacks on Indian security forces. India was brought to a standstill four years ago on February 14 when the deaths of 40 CRPF officers were reported.
A suicide bomber from Jaish-e-Mohammad drove an explosive-laden vehicle into a CRPF convoy in one of the worst terror attacks.
