Pulwama Attack: Priyanka Gandhi condoles death of CRPF personnel; demands concrete steps by govt

The newly inducted Congress general secretary asked the Narendra Modi government take concrete steps to ensure such terror attacks don't take place in future. She also extended support to the families of the martyred soldiers, in her statement.

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condoled the death of 30 CRPF troopers who were martyred in Pulwama terror attack on Thursday, which was one of the deadliest terror attacks to take place in recent years. She cancelled her scheduled press conference in wake of the unfortunate attacks. Gandhi urged the gathering to keep a 2-minute-silence to condole the martyred soldiers. She said:  "I don't think it is appropriate to talk politics right now." The newly inducted Congress general secretary asked the Narendra Modi government take concrete steps to ensure such terror attacks don't take place in future. She also extended support to the families of the martyred soldiers, in a press statement. “ I can very well understand the pain and grief of losing a loved one in the family,” said Gandhi who has seen the death of her father and grandmother, Rajeev Gandhi and Indira Gandhi respectively, both former Prime Ministers of India. “Deepest condolences to the families of the 30 Jawans martyred in a terror attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. I can very well understand the pain and grief of losing a loved one in the family. I want to say that not only the Congress party, but the entire country is standing shoulder to shoulder with the families of our brave soldiers,” the press statement by her read. Asking Modi government to take action, Gandhi said in her statement: “ But we must also reflect and be concerned about the high number of casualties in Kashmir. We demand that this government take concrete steps to ensure such terror attacks don’t happen in the future.” As many as 30 CRPF jawans were martyred and over 40 injured on Thursday evening after terrorists attacked an army convoy with powerful explosives at Awantipora region in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to initial reports, two buses of the CRPF convoy were targeted in the attack and even gunshots were also heard after the IED blast. Reports also suggest that three battalions of CRPF with as many as 2,500 soldiers were being shifted in the convoy.
