New Delhi: Mumbai police have summoned suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma to appear at Mumbai's Pydhonie police station on June 25, news agency ANI reported officials as informing on Saturday. The summon is regarding the inquiry and recording of Nupur Sharma's statement. Recently, the row over the comments on Prophet Muhammad by the suspended BJP spokesperson intensified, leading to global outrage. In response to this, the party issued a statement emphasising its stance on the matter.
As per ANI, Nupur Sharma has been asked to appear at Mumbai's Pydhonie police station on June 25. Earlier, Mumbai Police filed a case against her on a complaint filed by Raza Academy.
While Nupur Sharma made comments during a TV debate, another BJP leader Naveen Jindal posted a controversial remark on Twitter. The BJP suspended spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled media in-charge, Naveen Jindal, over the remarks as several countries condemned the statements.

Protests Against Nupur Sharma, Naveen Jindal Amid Prophet Comment Row
Protests erupted in several parts of India after Friday prayers, leaving two persons dead in Jharkhand's Ranchi and a few policemen injured in stone-pelting while security forces had to resort to lathi-charge, tear gas shelling, and firing in the air at some places.
Agitations against Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal were witnessed at Delhi's Jama Masjid, Uttar Pradesh, and Howrah in West Bengal.
Notably, a procession was taken out on Saturday evening in support of Nupur Sharma despite prohibitory orders being in place. A case was registered at the Gopiganj police station after the procession, news agency PTI reported an official as informing. Those who took part in the procession told reporters that the entire Hindu society was supporting Nupur and the BJP needed to respect her.
As the controversy gained international attention, India on Thursday reiterated that the controversial remarks concerning Prophet Mohammad do not reflect the views of the Government and added that action has been taken by concerned quarters against those who made the comment.
