The car of a friend of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw was attacked by a group of people after the batsman denied them a selfie at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. According to the ABP News sources, the incident took place at the Mansion Club of Sahara Star Hotel in Mumbai on Wednesday night. The accused have been identified as Sapna Gill and Shobit Thakur.

At the club, Sapna and Shobit approached Shaw for a selfie following which the cricketer obliged. After taking one selfie, the accused demanded another, which Prithvi refused. Following this, the manager sent the accused out of the hotel.

According to sources, the accused waited for Shaw and his friend to come out of the club. They followed a car presuming that Shaw was inside and stopped it near the Jogeshwari Link Road Lotus petrol pump. The accused broke the glass of the car with a baseball bat.

However, Prithvi was not in the car when it was attacked and was being driven by his friend. Shaw's friend was also reportedly thrashed. Shaw had left for home in another car from the hotel, sources said.

The accused also threatened Prithvi's friend and demanded Rs 50,000 to suppress the matter. The accused threatened him and said he will be implicated in a false case.

After this incident, Prithvi's friend reached the Oshiwara police station. The police, based on his complaint, registered a case against Sapna Gill and Shobit Thakur. Police said they were investigating the incident. According to an official, the case has been registered under sections 384,143, 148,149, 427,504, and 506 of the IPC.

The dashing right-handed opening batsman was recently picked for the T20I series against New Zealand at home but did not get to play a single match.

Shaw has been in fantastic form on the domestic circuit and most recently scored 379 runs in a Ranji Trophy match. He was also one of the top run scorers in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year.
