New Delhi: Joint Opposition candidate for the presidential election, Yashwant Sinha will file his nomination today. Sinha will file his nomination in the office of Secretary General of Rajya Sabha in the Parliament building at 12:15 pm. Senior leaders of the Opposition will remain present at the time when Sinha will file his nomination.
In the electoral fray against Sinha is National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate Droupadi Murmu who has already filed her nomination on June 24.
As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, the last date for filing nomination is June 29 whereas polling will take place on July 18. Votes will be counted and result will be announced on July 21.
Sinha’s schedule for the day is as follows.
11:30 AM: Meeting of the Opposition parties at the Parliament House Annexe.
12 noon: Opposition leaders will gather outside the office of the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha
12:15 PM: Filing of nomination.
12:45 PM: Wreath laying at Gandhi statue.
12:55 PM: Wreath laying at Dr Ambedkar statue.
1:10 PM: Yashwant Sinha will address a press conference at Vijay Chowk. Opposition leaders will also be present with him.
4:10 PM: Press Conference at Constitutional Club.
Yashwant Sinha served as Minister of Finance from 1990 until 1991 under the Prime Ministership of Chandra Shekhar and again from March 1998 to July 2002 under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also served as Minister of External Affairs from July 2002 until May 2004.
He had quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2018 and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) earlier in March last year.
