Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will submit the list of candidates who won the Lok Sabha elections to President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday evening. After the list is given to the President, the formal process to constitute the 18th Lok Sabha will commence, according to PTI.

The President had ordered the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha on Wednesday, after accepting the recommendation of the Union Cabinet.

"The President accepted the advice of the Cabinet on June 5, 2024, and signed the Order dissolving the 17th Lok Sabha in the exercise of the powers conferred upon her by Sub-Clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution," a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on Wednesday.

On the same day, PM Narendra Modi resigned along with his Council of Ministers and President Murmu accepted the resignation. The President requested that the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers continue until the new government assumes office.

After handing over the list to the President, the EC will pay floral tributes at Rajghat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to form the government at the Centre for a third consecutive term. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a majority in the just-concluded parliamentary polls with 293 seats, while the Opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc got 234 seats, PTI reported.

The NDA leaders, at a meeting, expressed their admiration for Prime Minister Modi's leadership and the progress made by the nation under his guidance over the past decade.
