'Precaution Doses Should Be Increased': Health Ministry Advises States To Follow 5-Fold Strategy Against Covid-19

Ministry of Health advised all the states to continue focusing on the 5-fold strategy of Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination and Covid Appropriate Behaviour to fight Covid-19.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Thursday advised all the states to continue focusing on the 5-fold strategy of Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination and Covid Appropriate Behaviour to fight Covid-19, as reported by the news agency ANI. The notification issued by the ministry stated, "There has been no evidence of an increase in hospitalisation. Precaution doses should be increased. Enhanced lab surveillance and testing of all severe acute respiratory Illness (Sari) cases needs to be done".

"We will do another mock drill to see the COVID-19 preparations. Mock drills will be done soon in all the states/UTs," the notification read.  According to the notification issued by the Health Ministry, more than 220.65 crore total doses of vaccines have been administered in the country.

The Ministry has also asked the states to ensure the availability of required drugs and logistics for Influenza and Covid 19 across health facilities. Apart from this, states have been asked to ensure the availability of sufficient designated beds and health workers.

India on Wednesday registered 1,300 fresh coronavirus cases. This is the highest in 140 days. The active cases have increased to 7,605, according to the Union Health Ministry data. With three deaths, the death toll has increased to 5,30,816. According to the data, one death each has been reported by Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The daily positivity was recorded at 1.46 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 1.08 per cent. The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,99, 418). The active cases now comprises 0.02 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.79 per cent, the ministry said.

A total 92.06 crore tests for detection of Covid has been conducted so far with 89,078 tests being conducted in the last 24 hours. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,41,60,997, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

According to the ministry's website, 220.65 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a high-level meeting to review the situation of Covid-19 in the country and also take stock of the public health preparedness after India witnessed an uptick in the Covid cases.
