New Delhi: Deadly disease dengue has claimed the life of a rising female football player from Varanasi district of the Uttar Pradesh.


On Tuesday, around 8:30 pm Poonam Chauhan passed away in a private hospital. She was unwell from past one week. On Monday, when her health deteriorated, she was admitted to a private hospital.

According to family members, on Tuesday, her platelets suddenly started dropping at a fast pace and she expired.

Poonam Chauhan was the first international footballer from the state of Uttar Pradesh. She was the part of the Indian team which won the gold medal in South Asian games. She was the trainer at the Sigra stadium of Varanasi for football. Before her illness, she was preparing for state level football championship
