Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to the martyrs on Police Commemoration Day and lauded the "relentless dedication" of police personnel. The Police Commemoration Day is observed to pay tributes to police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
In a post on X, Modi said, "We laud the relentless dedication of our police personnel. They are pillars of great support, guiding citizens through challenges and ensuring safety." "Their unwavering commitment to service embodies the true spirit of heroism. A heartfelt tribute to all the personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice," he said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday hailed the police personnel in the country calling their duty as the “most difficult” amongst all government jobs while speaking at Police Commemoration Day in the national capital.
"We all know that for any nation, border security and internal security is not possible without a vigilant police force. Since I have come in public life, I have experienced and reiterated that the job of the police is the most difficult one amongst all government jobs," he said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shah said that there has been a 65 per cent fall in the number of incidents of terrorism, Left Wing Extremism and insurgency in the Northeast while asserting that the country's "three hotspots -- LWE (Left Wing Extremism-hit states), the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir -- are becoming peaceful."
The Union minister also paid tribute to martyrs at the National Police Memorial.
Hailing Modi government’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, Shah said the Centre has also worked towards making the best anti-terrorism force in the world by setting up the "Police Technology Mission" for modernisation of the police force.
The Modi government has introduced three Bills in Parliament for a comprehensive overhaul of the criminal justice system, he said, adding that three legislations will replace 150-year-old laws and guarantee all due Constitutional rights to every citizen.

The minister lauded the work done by police personnel fighting terrorists, preventing crime, maintaining law and order in front of huge crowds or protecting people by acting as a shield during disasters.
Referring to the role played by police personnel in a disaster, he said that in the past, through the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), personnel of different police forces have earned a name across the world in disaster management.
"No matter how big the disaster is, when NDRF personnel reach there, people get confidence that now there is no problem as the NDRF has arrived," he said.
