PM Narendra Modi Speech Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation for the tenth time in a row from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day. He wore a turban that resembled the Rajasthani Bandhani print with a clear Ashok Chakra visible on the front and a black vest or Nehru Jacket with an off-white ensemble to go along with it. In his 90 minutes speech marking the 76 years of India's independence, the Prime Minister touched on a range of issues. From appealing for peace in the strife-torn Manipur and his governance to plans for the future, a sharp attack on opposition and a change in his salutation to the people. PM Modi referred to the citizens as 'Parivarjano' (members of his family) while earlier he used terms like 'Mitron', 'Bhaiyon', 'Beheno' 'Mataon', and 'Deshvasiyon'.


The Prime Minister also took a swipe at opposition parties while emphasising the evils the country has to fight against. For Calamity Affected People


The Prime Minister addressed the concerns of people who have suffered recent monsoon mayhem across the country at the beginning of his speech. He said that the calamities brought 'unimaginable' problems for the countrymen.


"This time, natural calamity has created unimaginable crises in several parts of the country. I express my sympathies to all families who faced this...Will ensure that that state and central government help those suffered the recent calamities," he added.


'Country Is With Manipur'


The Prime Minister said that India stands with the people of Manipur and expressed confidence that there shall be a peaceful resolution of the problems there. He said that there has been a period of unrest and violence in Manipur and news of attacks on the dignity of women. He said that the people of Manipur are maintaining peace for some time and urged them to carry forward the same. 


"The state and the central government are working together to solve those problems and will continue to do so", he said.


10 Years Of Governance


Highlighting the work done by his government in the last ten years, PM Modi said, "When we came to power in 2014, we were at the 10th position in the global economic system. Today, with the efforts of 140 Crore Indians, we have reached the fifth position, This did not happen just like that. The demon of corruption that had the country in its clutches - we stopped leakages and created a strong economy."


"When India is determined, it completes the work - our track record says that...For 25 years it was being discussed in the country that a New Parliament building will be built. Ye Modi hai, samay ke pehle Sansad banakar ke rakh diya. This is a Govt that works, that meets set goals. This is New India. Talking about his 2019 victory, the Prime Minister added, "In 2019, on the basis of performance, you blessed me once again...The next five years are for unprecedented development. The next time, on 15th August, from this Red Fort I will present before you the achievements and developments of the country..."


The Prime Minister Said:



  • Money sent to States from the Centre increased to Rs 100 lakh crore from 30 lakh crore.

  • To Municipal Bodies, it increased to over Rs 3 lakh crore from 70,000 cr.

  • Expenditure on houses for the poor is now over Rs 4 lakh crore from Rs 90,000 crore.

  • The Centre is spending around Rs 10 Lakh crore on Urea subsidy for farmers.

  • Over 20 lakh crore was spent on the self-employment of people under Mudra Yojna. He said that around 8 crore people begin new businesses.

  • The government has spent over 70,000 crore rupees on the One Rank One Pension scheme.


'Of Family, For Family And By Family': PM's Attack On Oppn


PM Modi took a jibe at opposition parties and attacked the dynasty politics. He said that the country needs to fight three sins - Corruption, Nepotism (Dynasty Politics) and Appeasement.


"Today, 'parivarvaad' and appeasement have destroyed our country. How can a political party have only one family in charge? For them, their life mantra is- party of the family, by the family and for the family.."

Plan For The Next 1000 Years Of India


From the stage at Red Fort, PM Narendra Modi called for taking steps that can initiate a golden history for India in the coming thousand years. 


"Today, we have demography, democracy and diversity - these three together have the ability to realise the dreams of the nation...I am talking about the last 1000 years because I see that there is opportunity before the country once again...What we do in this era, the steps we take, and the decisions we take one after the other will germinate the golden history of the country in the coming 1000 years...," he added.


'Modi's Guarantee' And The 2047 Dream


PM Modi promised the citizens that in the next five years, India will be among the top three economies in the world. He said that there is a new geopolitical equation that come forth after the Covid-19 pandemic.


"After Covid19 pandemic, a new world order, a new geo-political equation is taking shape. The definition of geopolitics is changing. Today, the ability of 140 crore Indians can be seen in shaping the new world order."


He said, "It is Modi’s guarantee that India will be among the top three economies in the world in the next 5 years." He added that in the next 25 years, India must move forward with the mantra of unity.


On the usage of 'last villages' for the border villages in the country, he said, "The Vibrant  Border Villages were called the last villages of the country. We changed that mindset. They are not the last villages in the country. What you can see at the borders is the first village in my country...I am delighted that the special guests of this event are 600 Pradhans of these border villages. They have come here at the Red Fort to be a part of this event..."


Remembering Freedom Fighters


The Prime Minister paid tributes to every great who took part in India’s freedom struggle. Recalling the Non-Cooperation Movement and Satyagraha Movement under Mahatma Gandhi and the sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru and numerous Bravehearts, he said that almost everyone from that generation took part in the freedom struggle.


He underlined the key anniversaries that are taking place in this momentous year. "Today marks the conclusion of the 150th Jayanti year of the great revolutionary and spiritual icon Sri Aurobindo," he said.


He also mentioned the 150th year of Swami Dayanand’s Jayanti, the 500th birth anniversary of Rani Durgawati which will be celebrated with great enthusiasm. He also noted the 525 years of paragon of Bhakti Yog Sant Meera Bai. Next Republic Day too will be the 75th Republic Day, he said. "In many ways, many opportunities, many possibilities, every moment new inspiration, moment by moment new consciousness, every moment dreams, moment by moment resolution, perhaps there can be no greater opportunity to be engaged in nation building than this", PM Modi added.


India's Economy, Potential And G20


PM Narendra Modi said that it is certain that India's capability and possibilities are going to cross new heights of trust. He said that these new heights of trust will go ahead with the new capabilities.


"Today, India has received the opportunity to host G20 Summit. In the past year, the manner in which several events of the G20 were held in every corner of India has made the world aware of the capability of India's common people, India's diversity," he added.


Elaborating on global inflation and India's management of the economy, he said, "The world has still not recovered from Corona. The war gave rise to another crisis. Today, the world is facing the crisis of inflation. Inflation has the entire global economy in its clutches...It is unfortunate that when we import goods of our necessity, we also import inflation. But, India made all efforts to control inflation...We can't be content just because our situation is better than the rest of the world. I have to take more steps to see that the burden of inflation goes further down on the citizens of my country. We will take those steps and my efforts will continue..."


Schemes Announced During Independence Day Speech


Vishwakarma Yojna 


The Prime Minister announced Vishwakarma Yojna for skilled labours, craftsmen, barbers and other people which will be launched next month on Vishwakarma Jayanti which also happens to be the birthday of the Prime Minister. "The government will launch Vishwakarma scheme with an allocation of Rs 13,000 to 15,000 crores in the next month for those with traditional skills," he added.


Women-Led Development


PM Narendra Modi said that the one thing that will take the country forward is women-led development. 


"Today, we can proudly say that India has the maximum number of pilots in civil aviation. Women scientists are leading the Chandrayaan mission. The G20 countries are also recognising the importance of women-led development..."


The PM said that he is setting a target of making 2 crore lakhpati Didis to support women-led development. He said the Centre will bring a scheme to train 15,000 women self-help groups in drone operation and repair to boost the agriculture development in the country.


13.5 Cr Out Of Poverty, Relief For Middle-Class


The Prime Minister said that a total of 13.5 crore people have come out of poverty and become a part of the neo-middle class and the middle class. In a big push to the middle class, he said that the Central government will bring a scheme to help realise the dream of a house for those who live in cities and pay rent. PM Modi stated that the government will introduce relief in interest of loans that residents will be able to take to own their own house.


New Ministries Created For Balanced Development


The Prime Minister talked at length about the Government’s initiative towards balanced development in the country by creating new Ministries in various sectors. He said that the world needs youth power and youth needs skills. He said that the Ministry of Jal Shakti is laying emphasis on ensuring that pure drinking water reaches each and every citizen of our country.


"We are reiterating and focusing on the development of sensitive systems to protect the environment", he added.


He also said the government created a separate Ministry of AYUSH and today Yoga and AYUSH are making waves in the world. After India braved Corona, the world is looking for holistic health care, which is the need of the hour, the Prime Minister added.
