New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and inspected a newly-built Matushri K.D.P. Multispeciality Hospital in the Atkot area of Gujarat's Rajkot. In an address shortly after, he said, "when people's efforts connect with Government's efforts, our strength to serve increases. This modern hospital (KDP Multispeciality Hospital) in Rajkot is a major example of it." PM Modi's Gujarat visit comes as the former chief minister is expected to lead BJP's campaign for the state election slated to be held later this year.
Speaking in Atkot, PM Modi mentioned that in 8 years of governance, his dispensation made honest efforts to build India as dreamt and envisioned by 'Bapu' Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. "Bapu wanted an India that would empower the poor, Dalit, victim, tribals, women; where hygiene and health become a way of life; whose economic system has indigenous solutions," he said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
In the last eight years, I have not done any such work that will make people hang their heads in shame, he emphasised.

"This isn't just data but evidence of our commitment to safeguard dignity of poor," he added.
The Prime Minister recalled that when the poor faced a food crisis at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, "we opened the food grain stores for the people of the country." "For a life of dignity to women, direct transfer was made to Jan Dhan bank accounts. Money was transferred to the bank accounts of farmers," he mentioned.
"We also arranged free gas cylinders so that kitchens of the poor can go on. When the challenges of medical treatment increased, we eased the testing and treatment facilities for the poor. When vaccines came, we ensured free vaccines for every Indian," PM Modi added.
Earlier in a statement, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had informed that Matushri K.D.P. Multispeciality Hospital, visited by the Prime Minister, is managed by Shree Patel Seva Samaj. "It will make available high-end medical equipment and provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of the region. The visit will be followed by Prime Minister’s address at a public function," the PMO stated.
Later in the day, PM Modi will also address a seminar of leaders of various cooperative institutions and inaugurate a Nano Urea (liquid) plant.
