New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked to his British counterpart Boris Johnson on Tuesday where both the heads of the nation discussed in detail on the situation in the war-hit Ukraine. 


“The two leaders had a detailed discussion on the situation in Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent appeal for cessation of hostilities and a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy.  He emphasised India's belief in respect for international law and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, as the basis of the contemporary world order,” stated the PMO in a press release.


Both the heads of nation also discussed issues of bilateral interests and agreed on the potential of further deepening cooperation in various areas including trade, technology, investments, defence & security, and people-to-people relations, the press release stated further.

“Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction at the positive momentum in the ongoing negotiations on the bilateral Free Trade Agreement.  He also appreciated the progress in implementing the 'India-UK Roadmap 2030' adopted during the Virtual Summit between both leaders last year,” PMO stated. 


PM Modi invited PM Boris Johnson to visit India at an early date, as per mutual convenience, the PMO added. 


Russia’s invasion in Ukraine entered its 27th day on Tuesday when reports of the Ukrainian Army gaining some ground against Russian troops emerged, said a Pentagon spokesperson.

Ukraine has been unexpectedly fierce, and now the Ukrainians are "in places and at times going on an offensive," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told CNN.


"They are going after Russians and pushing them out of places where the Russians have been in the past," he said, particularly in Mykolaiv, in the south


Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volydymyr Zelenskyy ordered the suspension of 11 parties with alleged “links to Russia”, media reports said.
