Hanukkah is a Jewish festival of lights which lasts for eight days and nights. It commemorates the recovery of Jerusalem and the redidication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. A new candle is lit each night to remember the miracle of oil that lasted eight days.

This year, Israel is celebrating Hanukkah in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks which triggered a massive conflict between Israel and Palestine, leading to the deaths of over 1,200 people, mostly civilians.
