New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi paid tributes to Pdt Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary. The leaders pay their respects as India is observing the death anniversary of the nation's first Prime Minister who also had a prominent role in India's freedom struggle. 


"Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on his death anniversary," Modi tweeted. 






Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and wrote: "58 years since his passing, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's ideas, politics, and vision for our Nation are as relevant as they have ever been. May the values of this immortal son of India ЁЯЗоЁЯЗ│ always guide our actions & conscience."






Earlier in the day, Congress leaders, including party chief Sonia Gandhi, paid floral tribute to Pdt Nehru on his death anniversary, at his memorial 'Shanti Van' in New Delhi






Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal also remembered the former prime minister as "a leader loved by young and old; A leader with an unmatched vision; A leader solely dedicated to building a free & prospering nation. "Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was everything and beyond what India needed in her first Prime Minister. On his death anniversary, my humblest tributes to him," he wrote.






Nehru was among the key leaders of the Indian National Congress (INC) who participated in India's freedom struggle. As the prime minister, he held office between August 1947 and May 1964. He passed away on May 27, 1964.
