New Delhi: Asserting discipline and regularity in attending the Parliament is must for everyone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his ire over absenteeism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs during the ongoing session and sought the names of those absent during Monday’s Rajya Sabha proceedings.
Prime Minister Modi put forth his views while speaking at the BJP’s parliamentary party meeting before the start of proceedings in both houses of the Parliament earlier in the day.

“The Prime Minister was angry over absenteeism and said discipline and regularity in attending the Parliament is must for everyone,” IANS quoted a BJP leader as saying.
“Despite repeated reminders from the Prime Minister, many of our Rajya Sabha members were absent yesterday during passing of important legislations,” he added.
Another party leader, who attended the meeting, echoed similar sentiments and underlined this is not the first time Prime Minister Modi expressed his concern about the lawmakers staying away from the House.
“The Prime Minister was very upset about members not attending the house. He specially mentioned that many MPs were missing from the Rajya Sabha when key legislation was placed for approval. He (Modi) asked for their names,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come as the Rajya Sabha earlier on Monday passed the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2021, for which the opposition moved a resolution to send it to the Select Committee, which came in as a surprise for the ruling dispensation as it was not prepared for the same.
Prime Minister Modi during the BJP’s parliamentary party meeting also spoke about India’s performance in the Tokyo Olympics and asked the MPs to promote sports in their respective constituencies.
“Prime Minister Modi also asked the Member of Parliaments to promote sports in their constituencies for next three months on a mission mode,” said a BJP MP present in the meeting.
Praising the athletes’ performance in the Tokyo Olympics, the Prime Minister asked all to give a standing ovation to the Indian players’ achievements.
Another party MP said Prime Minister Modi “also lauded the performance of India players in Olympics where they won seven medals”.
