Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the inaugural event of the 'International Lawyers’ Conference 2023’ at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that Judiciary and Bar have long been protectors of India's justice system. He also said that the experience of legal professionals worked to strengthen the foundation of independent India.
PM Modi said that in the fight for independence, the legal fraternity has played a huge role. "Bharat completed 75 years of independence recently. In the fight for independence, the legal fraternity played a huge role. Many lawyers left their practice to join the independence movement. The independent judiciary of Bharat has a major role to play in why the world today believes in Bharat," PM Modi said.
We Are Working Towards Becoming Developed Nation By 2047, Says PM Modi
Speaking at the conference, PM Modi said that the government is working towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. He also mentioned about the Chandrayaan-3 mission and said that India became the first nation to reach the South pole of the moon.
"One month ago, Bharat became the first nation to reach the South pole of the moon. We are working towards becoming a developed (nation) by 2047. For this, an unbiased, strong, and independent judiciary is needed... I am hoping that through this conference, we can all learn from each other...Whether it is cyber terrorism, money laundering, artificial intelligence or its misuse- we need a global framework for these. It's not one government which can do this. Legal frameworks of different countries need to join together," PM Modi said.
India Played A Pivotal Role By Constructing Supreme Court Buildings In Mauritius And Bhutan, Says CJI
At the inaugural event of the ‘International Lawyers’ Conference 2023, CJI DY Chandrachud said that India has played a pivotal role by constructing the Supreme Court buildings in Mauritius and Bhutan. Chandrachud also said that he recently signed an MoU with the Chief Justice of the Singapore Supreme Court.
"India has a relatively infant law for IBC and we have drawn extensively from jurisdictions such as UK, US, Australia, Singapore... knowledge sharing is a two-way street with Indian Supreme Court being regularly cited by foreign courts...India has played a pivotal role by constructing the Supreme Court buildings in Mauritius and Bhutan. Recently, I had the privilege of signing an MoU with the Chief Justice of the Singapore Supreme Court," Chandrachud.
The International Lawyer's Conference 2023
The International Lawyer's Conference 2023 is being organised by the Bar Council of India on the theme ‘Emerging Challenges in Justice Delivery System’ on September 23 and 24, as per an official statement. The programme will witness the participation of distinguished judges, legal professionals, and leaders of the global legal fraternity.
The conference aims to serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue and discussion on various legal topics of national and international importance, foster the exchange of ideas and experiences, and strengthen international cooperation and understanding of legal issues. The conference is being organised for the first time in the country. Topics such as emerging legal trends, challenges in cross-border litigation, legal technology, and environmental law will be discussed during the conference.
